"Preserving the best of yesterday for its enjoyment tomorrow"
Walton Historical Society, Walton, NY
The society's current exhibit features photographs of Walton's business district past and present. Displayed are many business receipts and memorabilia of past businesses dating back to the late 1840's. Also the Sanborn Maps of Walton.
In 1867 the Sanborn Map Company founded by D. A. Sanborn began making fire insurance maps of North American cities and towns. Sanborn Maps are large scales maps drawn at a scale of 50 feet per inch. The society has the maps made for the Village of Walton for the years 1886, 1891, 1897, 1903, 1911 and 1925. In addition the society has village maps dated 1856, 1869 and 1887. These maps are very interesting, contain a wealth of information and can provide dates for when businesses and homes in the village were built. There is never an admission charge
to view our exhibits. Research and genealogy will not be done during exhibit hours, please call or email us to make an appointment with our Historian, Larry Miller.
